Pelorus Jack is a famous Risso's dolphin who helped sailors. The sailors spotted him in1888. He was approximately thirteen feet long, he was of a white color with gray lines and shadings. Then he had a round, white head so he was recognizable by the sailors.
How he helped the sailors was pretty interesting. He guided ships through the dangerous passages of the French Pass. The French Pass was very rocky and there were dangerous currents and with Pelorus Jack's help no ships ever crashed. Soon he became locally famous and he was shown in postcards and newspapers. Pelorus Jack disappeared in April of 1912, people thought he just died of old age because of his light coloring.
