Outlining Book

Life on the Desert

The desert is a hard place to live because it is so hot and dry. Desert plants have special ways to stay alive and grow. Some have roots that grow very deep and find water underground.Others store water in their leaves or roots or stems. Some shed their leaves so they don't lose so much water.

Animals have special ways, too. Many insects and reptiles have think body coverings to keep them from drying out. Some can change food into water inside their bodies. Others stay underground during hot desert days.
